Graniteville observes fifth anniversary of deadly train crash and chlorine leak

By: Derek Lubie on January 06, 2010
It is hard to believe that the deadly Graniteville train crash and chlorine leak happened five years ago. Nine people were killed and another 554 people were injured when a train derailed, causing a major chlorine gas leak. Over $300 million in monetary damages were paid to victims of the crash.

What makes this type of incident even more tragic, is that it was preventable with on-site chlorine generation. Using a solution like Klorigen, the chlorine gas or sodium hypochlorite is generated on demand without the need for large scale storage. It is much safer than using chlorine gas that is delivered in canisters or via rail car.
